One Computer Science MSc thesis to be presented on 28 March

Friday, 28 March there will be a master thesis presentation in Computer Science at Lund University, Faculty of Engineering.

The presentation will take place only in Zoom (see link below).

Note to potential opponents: Register as an opponent to the presentation of your choice by sending an email to the examiner for that presentation (firstname.lastname@cs.lth.se). Do not forget to specify the presentation you register for! Note that the number of opponents may be limited (often to two), so you might be forced to choose another presentation if you register too late. Title: An Analysis of the Difference in Performance When Using the C Standard Libraries glibc and musl

Since there are several well-established C standard libraries available for programmers, the decision of which library to use is up to the individual. A popular choice is the GNU C Library, glibc, which was released in 1988. In 2011, musl was released and many are considering the advantages of switching.

The purpose of this degree project is to compare the performances of these two libraries, and to identify under which circumstances musl would be preferable. Seven functions were chosen for the comparisons, and three aspects of their performance were analyzed; the memory size required, the runtime, and the precision of numerical functions. The completeness of musl was also evaluated with some larger programs. The results showed that both glibc and musl have a reliable numerical accuracy. Using glibc resulted in shorter runtimes, but using musl required less memory. musl also seems to be robust enough to handle larger programs.
